Protect Your Family

When I moved into my current home, I almost immediately noticed the roaches. While the place wasn’t overrun with them, I saw them far too often. For a few years, my husband and I tried almost every anti-roach product available on the market. We would enjoy success for a short duration. However, the roaches always came back. Then, a wonderful thing happened. We hired a pest control company to spray our home for termites. As a bonus, the chemicals used to prevent termites got rid of our roach issue. If you want to protect your family from harmful roaches, contact a local pest control entity today. On this blog, you will learn how to rid your home of roaches for good with the help of a pest control specialist.

How To Keep Ants Out Of Your Home

Jennie Lucas

Ants are one of the most common types of pests that you can find around your garden, but they tend to not be harmful when relegated to the outdoors. However, if ants do manage to find their way into your home, they can quickly get in to your food supplies. Further, certain types of ants can even cause different types of damage to your home, such as carpenter ants and damage to wooden structures throughout the interior of your home. Fortunately, there are several different things that you can do to make your home less attractive and less accessible to ants, reducing the risk of experiencing an infestation anytime in the near future.

Vinegar

One the easiest things that you can do to keep your home ant-free is to use a homemade cleaner made out of half water and half vinegar to clean certain areas of your home – especially the kitchen. Vinegar acts as a natural cleaning agent, and is acidic enough to cut through dirt and food material very easily, but will also carry a strong scent that will discourage ants from coming near the area. Spraying this mixture around the entranceways of your home, as well as windows and other potential openings, can also help reduce the risk of ants finding their way inside.

General Cleanliness

In a somewhat similar vein to the above point, you should also make an effort to remove any exposed food as often as possible to reduce the number of attractions that ants have to the interior of your home. Dog food should not be left out and uncovered, dirty dishes with food stains and residue should be cleaned every night, and your garbage should either be stored in your garage or regularly emptied to reduce the potential focus points for ants within your home.

Sealing

Finally, another important and relatively easy thing that you can do to make it harder for ants to enter your home is to make sure that all of your exterior walls are properly sealed. This means checking window screens for any breaks or tears, inspecting the weatherstripping along the edges of your windows and doors for gaps, and making sure that if there are any gaps around the edges of your windows, they are properly filled with caulking. Doing minor household maintenance can make it much harder for ants to find a highway into the interior of your home.
